Trixie Decides to Go Shooting…

Shooting Results

It was not exhilarating. It was not liberating. I did not feel more empowered as a goat.

It was LOUD. My heart rate was at a million beats per second, and the adrenaline rush did not subside until I got back home.

The shooting range, however, was lovely and very well organized. I had an instructor who gave me a five-minute lesson on how to shoot. Very impressive in my goatly opinion.

“Stand like this. Hold your gun like this, with your hoof like this. Look between this. Aim and shoot.”

I finished my round of 20 using a 9-millimeter gun in less than 10 minutes.

Trixie Decides to Fall…

Ok so I didn’t really decide to do that. It just spontaneously happened!

As I was walking down the stairs outside the co-op holding my coffee in one hand and my car keys in the other, I somehow, by the power of the divine, slipped and landed harshly on my knees. Everything else was intact, but the knees. I have to admit though, it was a graceful landing.

Oh my dear knees. They were bloody, scabby and looked just plain ugly.

I also later discovered that my soy latte was terrible. Time to go fix the knees.

Trixie Decides to Tell a Story…

Posted in Goat Ramblings by Trixie on September 10, 2009

It was 1946 in Al-Ahmadi, Kuwait, and Mr. S.O. worked for the Kuwait Oil Company where he supervised the workers at the refinery. As a way to appreciate their hard work, the company had built houses for their workers in that area in order to make the commuting easier. This particular story revolves around the event where Mr. S.O. decided to pay a visit to some of the workers at their home.

It was a fine crisp winter morning and Mr. S.O. arrived at the workers’ home finding the front door wide open. He cleared his throat and said aloud,”Issalam 3alaikom?” He heard a voice from inside the house replying back,”Igli6!” The supervisor hesitantly walked through the front door and across the hallway. He peeked to see if there’s anyone in the reception room but was found empty. He cleared his throat again and repeated himself,”Issalam 3alaikom?” The same voice replied back,”Igli6!” He headed towards the kitchen and found it as well empty. For the third and final time Mr. S.O. said out loud,”Issalam 3alaikom?” The voice replied back for the third time,”Igli6!”

The voice came from the WC. Mr. S.O. was estranged that a man was inviting him inside the toilet! He slowly opened the door to find four men gathered around a squat toilet. The toilet was half-filled with sand and a fire was lit on top of it. The men were preparing their morning coffee on that fine winter morning and were so delighted to have Mr. S.O. as their guest.

The end.

Trixie Decides to Complain…

Posted in Goat Ramblings by Trixie on September 8, 2009

I complain, you complain, we all complain. It’s part of human nature as a way to release the bottled up tension of everyday life. My complaint, however, is about people who incessantly complain. I understand that people feel the need to express themselves, share and try to connect with others.  This sort of interaction might even deepen the bond between you and the complainer, but after a while it just gets so daunting. Therefore, I have decided to write up few basic rules of complaining:

  1. Complain to yourself first. Hear how your complaint sounds out loud and decide whether it is worth sharing it with someone else.
  2. Should you need to share it with someone else, keep it short and brief. DO NOT DRAG ON!!!
  3. Do understand that the complainee (not sure if it’s a real word) was subjected to your complaining and as such don’t expect more than an ear. If you need help, go to the appropriate person for that job.

A final word to the wise: I have none. Sorry.

Trixie Decides to Live in the Night…

Posted in Goat Ramblings by Trixie on August 14, 2009

I can’t help but to listen to this song when the night is nearing its end. The point where reality starts molding into fantasy and thoughts are screaming louder than before. I enjoy this. I enjoy when the world is asleep and it’s just me, alone. I can think clearly, I can dream deeply. I am alive in the solitude of the night.

Trixie Decides to Psychoanalyze Burgers and Fries…

Posted in Goat Ramblings by Trixie on August 11, 2009

After an average meal from an average fast food joint, I started wondering whether the order in which we eat our burgers and fries has anything to do with how we perceive ourselves and our world. Naturally, I think everything has to do with everything else and ultimately ourselves. And so I started asking around about how everyone eats their meal. Most people fall between two extremes; Fries first then burger, or vice versa. Then there are the minor tweaks; few fries, then burger followed by the rest, or a bite of the burger, all of the fries then the rest of the burger.

I found it all to be interesting (at that time) to be honest. Perhaps the burger and fries signify the way we approach our obstacles or relationships (the two are basically synonymous to me) and as such my analysis goes as follows:

  • People that go burger first take things head-on. They generally act on impulse and most times end up getting in trouble.
  • People that go fries first are more generally cautious. They need to assess the situation meticulously before taking any sort of action. Wise people.
  • People that bite the burger first then the fries and then back to the burger are particularly interesting. They would dip their toe into it and then back away but eventually will have to face the music. Wise or insecure? Can’t decide.
  • People that fall in the final category (few fries, burger, then fries) are reasonably rational. They don’t take as much time as the fries first but don’t dive into things like burger first.

Finally, here’s to my first failed attempt at psychoanalyzing anything. More to come in the future so stay tuned.

Trixie Decides to Listen to a Song…

Oh my Goldfrapp! This duo can surely make everything sound so flirtatious and fun, even the rhythm of their music makes me want to strut! Who does that?! Really?! My favorite song will have to be their most popular one, “Ooh La La.” If I ever need a pick-me-up song, this surely will do the job.

I’ll leave you with some Goldfrapp goodness.

Enjoy!

Trixie Decides to Explore Lunar Lunacy…

Posted in Goat Ramblings by Trixie on August 9, 2009

A theory that has been highly criticized, I couldn’t help but notice glimpses of it around me in the past few days. The theory basically states that around the time of the full moon, people start acting more strangely resulting in higher rates of crime, accidents and/or injuries. The rationale behind this was that the gravitational force of the moon on the earth and its water is at its peak during the time of the full moon and since humans are 80 percent water, the effect of it on us is applicable.

Nonetheless, after taking consult from my good friend Google, I have landed on a good article on the Scientific American website (personally I prefer New Scientist, but this one did the job) that helped me debunk this theory. Basically, it was all in my head or as the article says it was “illusory correlation.” I was trying to justify the theory by “looking” for evidence where on any other day I wouldn’t have paid attention to.

Therefore, the moral of my story is that everyone has their out-of-the-ordinary days and as such we can’t lay the blame on our poor moon for our actions.

Trixie Decides to Scrobble…

Posted in Music by Trixie on August 9, 2009

I’ve been a user of Last.fm for a VERY long time. I absolutely love it and it gave me the opportunity to expand my music tastes. The best part of it is the Last.fm Scrobble application. If you don’t know much about Last.fm it’s an application you download on your desktop and it records all your music plays on your itunes or media player. It can then start recommending to you other artists that you may be interested in, and start forming “stations” made from your own music collection. Another great aspect of the application is that the more you listen to your music, the more it starts matching you up with your music “neighbors.” They are other Last.fm users who share similar music tastes and you can start listening to their “stations.” It’s a great way to listen to new music that you don’t have time to look for. A very useful application in my opinion, so I suggest every music lover to sign up for an account and start scrobbling away!
